During his adolescence, Elie Saab was famed for dressing the women in his neighbourhood. His beginnings were humble, growing up in war-torn Lebanon, he would scavenge for whatever materials he could find to make his creations. Saab’s energy and eagerness are well documented, dropping out of college in Paris to start his own business – a move that proved to be fruitful as his clientele grew from neighbours to aristocrats. His acceleration into the realms of Hollywood’s elite came in 2002 when Halle Berry picked up a Best Actress Oscar wearing his creation. Today, his collections continue to blend a cultural myriad of fashion influences to give a distinctive and sophisticated edge.
Elie Saab’s first fragrance, Elie Saab le Parfum, launched in 2011 and within a year had scooped a hat-trick, taking home the coveted Fragrance Foundation (FiFi) Award for Best New Fragrance in the UK, the US and France. The fragrance is an ‘ode to light’, bountiful in orange blossom, in memory of Saab’s Mediterranean childhood, with a cedar-woody accord, coupled with rose honey for a touch of sweetness.
Today, the collection continues to blossom with the additions of Le Parfum Eau de Parfum Intense and Le Parfum Eau de Toilette. It is complemented by the Couture collection which includes Elie Saab L’Eau Couture and Rose Couture. L’Eau Couture is a scent which accompanies the designer’s spring 2014 collection which is a homage to city dwellers. On the opposite end of scent spectrum, Rose Couture is an encapsulating symbol of femininity – pink in appearance, rose in fragrance.
In parallel the La Collection des Cuirs and La Collection des Essences are unisex couture inspired luxury lines which highlight the designer’s key fragrance notes. While La Collection des Cuirs encapsulates leather, La Collection des Essences continues with the orange blossom notes that were typical of Saab’s debut.
The newest addition to the portfolio is Girl of Now, the spirit of today’s women bottled. While Girl of Now is celebrated as being a completely different odour profile to anything Saab has released before there is one element that continues to bind them together; the reoccurrence of Saab’s signature Orange Blossom.
