Choosing a new fragrance can be very overwhelming, with so much choice it can be hard to know where to begin. So we’ve put together our top tips to help guide you through the fragrance world to the scent that’s perfect for you! What have you worn in the past?
It can be really helpful if you have a base to begin your journey, think about what fragrances you have previously worn or currently wear. Do you want something similar or completely different? Maybe you wear different fragrances for day and night, but don’t worry that doesn’t complicate a thing, it just gives you more options to explore.
What are the main accords?
Whether you are searching for a fragrance similar to what you wear or something opposite, what characteristics would you use to describe the fragrance? Do you prefer a warmer, woody fragrance, or a super sweet scent? If you are like me, you like to have a range of options for different moods, from fresh and citrusy, to warm and spicy, to light and floral, and maybe a woody, leather accord from time to time! It’s good to know when you pop into a store, what tones/accords you would like from your new perfume.
Where will you be wearing your fragrance?
Have in mind where you’ll be wearing your new scent/ what you’ll be wearing it for. Is it for everyday use? If it is you may want something lighter or fresher, depending on where you spend your days. Maybe it is for a special occasion, a birthday or wedding? Are you looking for a new evening signature scent? For winter nights you may want a richer, heavier fragrance but for summer nights possibly a woodier tone with a fresh opening.
How do you want to feel?
What is your perfume personality? What emotions do you want to evoke? How do you want to feel when you wear your new perfume? Fragrance can make us feel a range of ways, whether that be confident, strong, playful, sexy or fresh so have a think about how you want your new fragrance to make you feel. Each time you spray this elixir on you, do you want to smell elegant and create a gentle linger, or do you want to capture the presence of the room as you walk through?
Taking all of these questions into consideration can make the perfume adventure a lot less scary, and help ease you into the journey. The next thing to do… pop into a store and start smelling! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t settle. Perfume is so personal, take your time and you’ll know when you’ve found the right one.
