Karl Lagerfeld For Her and For Him

Eternally dressed in a black suit, leather gloves and a stern expression,

Karl Lagerfeld is as outspoken as he is boldly dressed

Prone to making calculated, cutting statements about everyone and everything, you feel prompted to ask, “who hurt you, Karl? What happened?” We know him not only for his work, but his strong opinions. And then there’s the snappy dressing.

We’re sure he has eyes, we’ve just never seen them. Dark sunglasses and a silvery ponytail are further permanent fixtures that have made Lagerfeld himself an instantly recognisable figure, and provided a strong logo for his brand, not to mention that glove.

There’s no denying the man has both style and attitude in abundance, and from March 2014, said traits take the shape of a new eau de parfum for women, and eau de toilette for men.

With so discerning a designer at the helm, when it involves an industry in which modern scents can seem a little lacklustre and run-of-the-mill at times, it is both reassuring and refreshing to know that Lagerfeld is passionate about perfume, referring to it as “fashion for the nose”.

Very well said.

Fronted by Kati Nescher and Baptiste Giabiconi (see them behind the scenes here), the new signature scents are a few good strides ahead of the ordinary.

For Her boasts fruity top notes of peach, lemon and lime, a floral heart of rose, magnolia and frangipani (not just a delicious almond paste, who knew?) and a contemporary base of dark, ambery woods and musks. For Him features lavender and violet leaves, refreshed with mandarin and apple, drying down to a sandalwood and amber base.

Our Verdict:

Although not entirely enticed by the cartoonish logo, these new arrivals have gone down a treat. Housed in sturdy, chunky glass, the bottles are as satisfying to hold as they are to look at. Softly feminine, yet bright, For Her is extremely long-lasting and has become a new favourite of the Scentstore Team. For Him, although based around lavender and sweetened by violet is firmly masculine and very wearable. Comparable to the likes of Azzaro Chrome and Givenchy Gentlemen Only, it is a clean, refreshing scent perfect for summer.
